The world behind Clockwork Survivors


The core of the world was built around clockwork. An endlessly interesting and mesmerizing topic to research and peer into. Machines were soon taken away from reality and added magical properties, what better catchall to have than deem it magical.

Before we had gone further deep into designing what we wanted, color and the insubstantially substantial goal of feeling was broached. While our previous game Dr. Professor Scientist’s Weapons Testing Facility was not a bleak game by a long shot, what we wanted was a departure from anything bleak. What we aimed for was something colorful with a pinch of muted elegance. A palette to evoke wonderful adventure in a world where the creators were gone and only one-minded machines remained.

Our hero, a sentient piece of paper, flung loose from a book in the tower library and by the mercy of currents landed upon a robot scrap yard. With most of their latent power they animated the robots to form a body of their own. Now their goal is to reach the top of the tower, to view what they could only wish to see from the inside of a book.
